Wealthy Homeowner in Sydney’s East Offloads a Slice of his Backyard for $18 Million

One of Australia’s well known “trophy” homes in the exclusive eastern suburbs enclave of Point Piper, the grand residence is just four doors up from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s sprawling pad on Wunulla Rd.

Both luxury homes have gun-barrel views of Sydney Harbour and private harbourfront jetties.

According to The Australian, Chinese-born property developer Wang Zhijun sold off a 1100sq m slice of land that includes a private slipway, but is also planning to part with the rest of the high profile property.

The remaining 1680sq m lot, which is home to the glamorous eight-bedroom house, is currently being marketed online with prestige selling agent Alison Coopes who has a co listing with Roslyn Ho of Goldfield & Co, the agent behind the recent land sale.

A vast Italianate home, Altona was designed by architects Dods & Zuccon and features interiors by Andrew Parr of SJB.

Each of the eight bedrooms have ensuites, the main bedroom has a dressing room and double ensuite and there are additional luxury features including a commercial grade stainless steel kitchen with butler’s pantry, several wet bars, vast terraces with water views, five marble fireplaces and a separate granny flat.

The land-only sale was almost double the price paid by former Altona owner Matt Handbury who had snapped up the vacant block in 1994 for $6.25 million.

Mr. Wang purchased the Point Piper mansion from publishing mogul Deke Miskin and his bikini designer wife, Eve.  At that time Altona held the Australian price record for residential property.  That record is now held by the former Vaucluse home of James Packer and his ex-wife Erica Baxter.
