Record-Breaking $22 Million Trophy Home Sells on the Sunshine Coast

A $22 million Sunshine Beach trophy home has been snapped up by a mystery buyer less than two weeks after Pat Rafter’s neighbouring $18 million mansion went under contract.
In one of the biggest real estate deals in Queensland in recent years, 21-23 Webb Road — a seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom beachfront estate — has set a new record for the Sunshine Coast region, only streets away from where tennis great Pat Rafter sold his mansion earlier this month.
It’s a staggering result for marketing agent Nic Hunter and Tom Offermann Real Estate principal Tom Offermann, who listed the property for sale only eight weeks ago.

It is understood there were a number of interested buyers as soon as the home was listed.
The property was sold by Melbourne IT entrepreneur Danny Wallis, who purchased the home in 2013 for $7 million – well below the property’s original price guide of $14 million.
Hunter and Offermann were tight-lipped about the exact latest sale price and the identity of the new owners, citing confidentiality as paramount for their often well-known, high-end clients.

“We respect their privacy,” Mr Offermann said. “(We) would never divulge any details especially price prior to settlement.
“Naturally everyone is curious. After all, property sales such as this are not every day transactions.”

While $22 million houses don’t sell daily, record-breaking deals are being done frequently, with many of them transacting in the last few months.
Rafter’s house sale had already set a new benchmark for the Sunshine Coast, marking a phenomenal start to 2018.
It followed a massive year for property prices in the region, where places like Coolum Beach, Peregian Beach and Mooloolaba grew by up to 20 per cent in 2017 alone.
While house prices in the Sunshine Coast region have risen by an impressive 7.3 per cent over the past 12 months, Sunshine Beach house prices went up by 21 per cent over the December quarter alone.
In November 2017, two Noosa properties, one at 312 Teewah Beach Road, Noosa North Shore, the other at 31 Wyuna Drive, Noosaville, smashed the Sunshine Coast house price record within weeks of each other, chalking up sales in excess of $10 million each.
Mr Offermann said the Webb Road mansion made headlines in 1987 when it was the first Sunshine Coast property to every crack the million-dollar mark.
“It’s still making headlines today, 31 years later. That’s understandable given Webb Road is very sought-after with four-only beachfront properties,” he said.
Despite the bullish sale price, the sale comes short of Queensland’s all-time record price, set in 2008 when businessman Tony Smith sold five beachfront blocks of adjoining Gold Coast land, unfinished mansion included, for $27 million.
