BILLIONAIRE James Packer has splurged an astonishing $60 million on a new Sydney bolt hole in the heavily anticipated Crown Resort complex.

Crown have released a statement addressing the sale: “Crown has reached in-principle agreement with Mr. James Packer to sell two floors of the Crown Sydney Residences at the Crown Sydney Hotel Resort to Mr. Packer for $60 million.  The floors are located above the mid-levels of the Crown Sydney Hotel Resort.”

The sale has smashed the Sydney apartment record of $26 million, set in 2016 with the sale of Sydney’s Opera Residences penthouse.

Packer isn’t one to skimp on luxury, so it’s no surprise the apartment will include high-end interior design features and it’s reported his own alterations to the property will cost in the millions.

Fashioned by New York-based interior designers, it’s expected the unit will have Scandinavian bleached birch wood, ripple textured bronze glass, polished blackened stainless steel, leather detailing, and white and silver-veined stone slabs from Greece.

The Crown Sydney Hotel Resort will be built at Barangaroo South and will be Sydney’s first six-star luxury hotel.

It will include 350 hotel rooms, more than 80 luxury apartments and a variety of high end retailers.

Packer’s purchase comes as the casino company aims to sell of more than $700 million worth of assets in order to reduce debt.

Packer’s very public split with Hollywood singer Mariah Carey was placed under the microscope last year, while earlier this year he opened up about the doomed engagement, labelling the relationship a mistake for both parties.

It is still unclear as to whether Carey kept her $10 million engagement ring and if she requested a $50 million settlement when they split.
