Late settlements on some of this year’s top sales have revealed an interesting line-up of buyers, including the more than $21 million purchase by ASX chief executive Dominic Stevens and his wife Emma.

The couple are trading up from one Bellevue Hill home to another after they bought the historic Belhaven trophy home of fellow corporate heavyweight Stephen Johns.

The Victoria Road residence – next-door neighbour to Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch’s Le Manoir estate – was best known as the Belhaven Babies Home in the 1940s when run by controversial businessman Leslie Owen Bailey.

It was bought by the chairman of Brambles and long-time Westfield executive in 1989 for $4.5 million, and later restored by architect Howard Tanner.

Johns and his wife Michele Bender listed it with Michael Pallier, of Sotheby’s International, after they paid $16 million earlier this year for the Darling Point apartment of US tech billionaire David Doyle.

Stevens is a former chief executive of Challenger who was appointed to the ASX’s top job in August last year after former chief Elmer Funke Kupper resigned amid corruption allegations dating back to when he ran Tabcorp.

The Stevens family have been Bellevue Hill locals since 2005 when they paid $8,715,000 for the Kambala Road home of dentist and entrepreneur David Penn and his wife Linda, the Lowes Manhattan heiress.
